POSTPONED INDEFINITELY: Africa in Transition: A Conversation with Dr. Jakkie Cilliers

What will Africa's political and economic landscape look like in twenty years? Dr. Jakkie Cilliers, founder of the Institute for Security Studies, will discuss the demographic, industrial, and governance transformations essential to Africa’s future.

Dr. Cilliers focuses on big picture analysis and issues around the long-term future of South Africa and Africa. His most recent works include, Kenya to 2030 and Beyond , Getting to Africa's Demographic Dividend , and Violence in Africa: trends, drivers and prospects to 2023 . His latest book, Fate of the Nation: 3 Scenarios for South Africa’s Future was published in July 2017. He is currently finishing a book on the future of Africa with a time horizon to 2040.

Dr. Cilliers is the founder of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), a regional think- and do-tank with offices in Dakar, Addis Ababa, Nairobi and Pretoria. After stepping down as executive director in 2015, he now serves as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Institute and head of the African Futures and Innovation programme at the Pretoria office of the ISS. He is an Extraordinary Professor in the Centre of Human Rights and the Department of Political Sciences, Faculty Humanities at the University of Pretoria and a well-known author and analyst.
