Book Discussion "The Last Hunger Season: A Year in an African Farm Community on the Brink of Change"
U.S. agricultural development efforts have been focused on smallholder farmers throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Thurow's latest book chronicles his experiences living with a group of farmers in rural Kenya, and the challenges and opportunities they face. He also highlights how the One Acre Fund has been able to improve livelihoods through a "market bundle" that includes seed and fertilizer distribution, financing, group education, and market facilitation.
CSIS hosts a discussion with Roger Thurow, author of The Last Hunger Season: A Year in an African Farm Community on the Brink of Change, and Stephanie Hanson, the Director of Policy Outreach at One Acre Fund share their experiences living and working with smallholder farmers in western Kenya.
