President Obama has just returned from his ten day Asia trip that has helped to redefine the strategic landscape in the Asia Pacific. CSIS is pleased to invite you to a special debriefing by His Excellency Dr. Dino Patti Djalal. Ambassador Djalal has the quintessential insider’s view as a key adviser to President Susilio Bambang Yudhoyono. He was intimately involved in preparing for and conducting the November summits including the G20 in Cannes, the APEC Leaders’ Summit, the third US ASEAN Leaders Summit and the sixth East Asia Summit. Indonesia hosted the last two of these summits in Bali.
Dr. Dino Patti Djalal was previously a Special Staff for International Affairs and Presidential Spokesperson for President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) — a position he had held since October 2004 making Dr. Dino Patti Djalal the longest serving presidential spokesperson in Indonesia's modern history.
Dr. Dino Patti Djalal joined the Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia in 1987. He has been posted to Dili, London and Washington, DC, before being appointed as Director for North American Affairs (2002-2004). Earlier, as assistant to Director General for Political Affairs Wiryono Sastrohandoyo, he was involved in the Cambodian conflict, the settlement of the Moro conflict in The Philippines, the South China Sea disputes, and the East Timor conflict.
Dr. Dino Patti Djalal obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada) and his Master’s Degree in Political Science from Simon Fraser University (British Columbia, Canada). In 2000, he received a Doctorate Degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Please RSVP to the Southeast Asia Program by November 29 at noon. If you have questions, please contact Mary Beth Jordan at (202) 775-3278.
